FAQs

  • What kind of training do you offer?

Our training ranges from “back to basics”, such as how to write report comments, how to manage a class, how to set an assessment, how to plan a lesson, how to design and use a rubric, through to the really tough aspects of the job, such as learner behaviour, bullying, conflict in the workplace, time-management, workload, policy, and whole-school culture. We also offer training and mentorship in individual subjects. Contact us and we’ll put together a presentation or workshop to address your specific needs.

  • What can we expect from a typical training session?

Depending on your department or school’s requests, we facilitate anything from a forty-five minute talk to a two-day staff development programme - or enrolment on one of our short courses. We can customise interventions based on your requirements. A typical training day or half-day usually takes the form of a workshop, using a variety of methodologies. A ‘community of practice’ informs our approach.

  • What is a 'community of practice'?

The mutual sharing of knowledge and experiences, where everyone’s voice is valued and heard, and participants learn from one another. No individual is regarded as the singular expert on phenomena - instead each person has insights to contribute. There is thus equality in the session. Members should feel enriched by the coming together to problem-solve and be inspired to further collaborate.

  • What methodologies do you use?

We use self-reflection exercises, group work, presentations, feedback sessions, ‘gallery walks’, quizzes, questionnaires, guest lectures, course notes, case studies, testimonials, and more. We balance theory with practical application. For example, if a code of conduct was a contentious issue we would facilitate the creation of a working policy with members’ input in real time.

  • What outcomes can we expect from your training or presentations?

After one of our workshops, participants can expect to have the tools to change the dynamic in their classroom or department, or in their career, for the better.

  • What is included in your training?

We provide all the content, workbooks, worksheets, learning materials, pens, paper, printing & resources. Our training also includes follow-ups, check-ins, monitoring and assessment after the fact, depending on what type of presentation or intervention was required. We debrief stakeholders, compile a report or make recommendations, if requested.

  • What logistics are required from our side if we purchase training from you?

We come to your school and connect our laptops to your projector/screen and wifi. But don’t worry, if your school doesn’t have any tech, we can train and present without it. We request a room that accommodates the correct number of participants, and for longer training sessions, refreshments for attendees. If catering for a full-day or two-day development programme is not possible, we can arrange this for you and build it into the cost of our training. We prefer in-person training but can host an online workshop and/or provide pre-recorded training with email or face-time follow-ups. We can also set up a Google classroom for participants. We are flexible and can arrange training around whatever limitations may arise.

  • Why don't you have a Learning Management System or dedicated software for training?

Face-to-face teaching & learning is at the core of our training. Technology is a helpful tool when interactions in “real life” aren’t possible, but genuine connection is more impactful. We want to meet our colleagues in person. This enables us to keep our training focused on the teachers we engage with. Our pedagogy is modern and forward-thinking, but there is value in “old-school” techniques too. There are many course providers working exclusively through online platforms but we differentiate ourselves by doing in-person workshops. However, where there are logistical challenges that prevent in-person training, we facilitate and coach online. We may make use of recorded tuition also.

  • We have highly experienced staff. Will your training offer anything new or merely antagonise teachers who have been here for a long time?

Our workshops provide a space for staff to contribute their expertise, offer their opinions, and collectively problem-solve. Training is collaborative, not prescriptive. We aim to enhance teacher efficacy, not undermine it. We value all educator experience and knowledge. This is the essence of a community of practice. We wish to cultivate strong bonds between teachers. All educators have skills and strengths that deserve recognition and acknowledgement - a plurality of input enhances education.

  • We don't want a workshop, only assistance with a staff member struggling with a certain task.

We offer coaching and/or mentorship for individual teachers at an hourly rate or per term or month. Contact us for coaching and mentorship packages.

  • What is the benefit of outside coaching if we have staff in-house?

Personalised assistance can boost self-esteem and foster best practice. Teachers don’t want to be seen to be struggling. Having a teacher-buddy independent of the institution is an invaluable strategy to improve job performance.

  • What is the cost of your training?

The cost of training depends on the number of participants, the duration of the session, the content, and other factors. We take into account your school’s needs and your staff requirements. Please contact us to find out more.
