Write Jozi connects writers through the love of storytelling and a passion for words and ideas. Workshops explore a variety of genres, styles and formats, supporting creative goals and nurturing writing ambition. From literary fiction to plays, non-fiction to poetry – and beyond, whatever YOUR personal writing project is, Write Jozi will help you bring it to fruition. All levels, all welcome!

Write Jozi is co-facilitated by writer & educator, Jacqui Aires, founder of the Teacher Training Lab. Workshops are for anyone with an interest in writing, no matter their background or experience.

  • Join Write Jozi for 10 weeks of writing, creativity and community. At weekly in-person sessions, we focus on developing writing craft, improving mindset and inspiration, as well as workshopping your current project. You'll get support for your personal creative goals, whether you're starting out, finishing a novel, or trying something new. We provide gentle accountability as you discover your story and establish a writing routine. Write Jozi is for all genres and all levels. Anyone who yearns to explore their writing potential is welcome!

    What's included? 10 sessions comprising two hours each, as well as developmental feedback & book coaching for the duration of the workshop. Gain readers for your work and expand your narrative with two experienced writing teachers. The vibe is joyful and non-competitive.

  • Scare yourself silly in this spine-tingling, bone-chilling, stomach-churning, gruesome-gory, gut-wrenching workshop! We’ll traverse the psychology of Horror, identify key genre beats, elevate imagery above cliche & craft a short story. Not for the faint of heart!

  • Love is in the air with Write Jozi’s delightful, heart-filled Romance writing workshop. Learn story structure, genre conventions, character-arcs, how to write with feeling & craft the dreamiest love story!

  • Join Write Jozi for a unique "MEMOIR-LITE" experience! This mini-workshop will shine a light on how to write a memoir. Personal writing can feel daunting & vulnerable. We help you to map out your story, select your key moments, and find your voice. Everyone has a story to tell. What's yours? Come and find out!

  • Write Jozi Teenz is a creative space for teens who love to write – and who take their craft seriously. Mary Shelley was only 19 years old when she wrote Frankenstein! We believe any teen can write a novella, if it’s their dream. We offer writing inspiration with a difference, and an opportunity for Jozi teens to come together through the shared love of reading & writing.

    Ages 13-17

    Who are the facilitators?

    We are two experienced writers, readers and teachers with a love of stories. Jacqui has degrees in English and Psychology, a Master's Degree in Writing, and is registered with the South African Council of Educators. She has taught English and Creative Writing in high schools for over two decades. Jacqui has written study-guides, manuals, blogs, and articles, and is working on her second novel. Susie is a best-selling author of children's books and has an Honour's Degree in English Literature. After teaching English language and creative writing, she honed her editing skills in women's magazines. She has worked as a copywriter and creative director in marketing and advertising.
